Schloss Werfen

 We visited Schloss Werfen today.
Took a nice tour.

Opa went to a police school there during the 1950s.
He has great stories to tell about the place.

Salzburg

Schloss Hellbrunn in Salzburg was built by the Archbishop during the Baroqu era.
It is famous for its trick fountains.
 The interior is nice, too.

 Especially the banquet hall.
Then we drove into Salzburg and walked through the gardens of Schloss Mirabell -
a castle the Archbishop built for his mistress.
They had 14 kids together.
We also took the furnicular up to the fortress and enjoyed the views.

Loser

We hiked up the Loser again.
This is a little mountain lake (Augsee).
 Up on the plateau.
 At the summit.
After that we had a snack at the Loserhütte.
 And a little desert.

Kehlsteinhaus - Eagle´s Nest

We went to Berchtesgaden to visit the Kehlsteinhaus -
Hitler´s little mountain getaway.
The Führer Bunkers are now open to the public.
 It was a rainy day.
 We ate some Sausages.
The bunker sysem was really impressive.

Knödelalm

 Dinner at Knödelalm.
Thomas loves their Alm-Soda.
 The dumplings (Knödel) and us.
This is a sweet yeast dumpling.
Only a small Oachkatzlschwoaf for afterwards.

Hallstatt

We went hiking along the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt today.
From Obertraun we took the ship across to Hallstatt.
 It was a long hike.
Hallstatt was filled with Chinese tourists.
We saw a funeral cortege.

KZ Ebensee

We went to the KZ Ebensee today. In Ebensee, a satellite camp of Mauthausen, Nazi prisoners built the secret V2 rocket in tunnels dug into the living rock. Due to the inhumane working and living conditions, Ebensee was one of the worst Nazi concentration camps for the death rates of its prisoners.

This is one of the mass graves and the watch tower.
More than 3000 prisoners are buried here but over 8000 people died here between 1943 and 1945.
 One of the tunnels,
The old gate is on the side to the tunnel.
The actual gate is still in the original spot,
but what I found awful is the fact that in 1948 the town of Ebensee built a settlement on the terrain of the camp. The gate to the camp here is surrounded by lovely little houses. The entrance to the memorial is located in a maze of houses and visitors have a hard time finding it.
It seems clear that the local people don't want to be reminded of the place's history.

Hier bin ich Mensch

Climbing once more.
 Went to Lake Alt Aussee.
 Great scenery.
 Life like it should be.
Also James Bond (next movie opening in the Fall)
liked the Seewiese.
 Sausage is about to come.
The farmers have new kittens.
